I am an Australian woman, currently working in Washington DC. I moved here from Sydney in October 2012 and will be based in DC until mid 2014. Originally from Brisbane, I have lived in several Australian States. I’ve lived in New York and Washington before for four years (2000 to 2004) on a previous working trip to US.
My work takes me across a range of business and cultural themes. Right now my work is to bring people and opportunities together to promote Australian culture (arts, creative industries and education) beyond our own country.I am employed in diplomacy at the Embassy of Australia in this current project.
I have worked with government, business, the arts & entertainment sectors to find ways for others to share stories and ideas about contemporary Australian culture.
What does that mean? I can be introducing an Australian theatre company to a major US venue; sharing the message about a new solo sculptor or young guitarist touring the States; developing and presenting literary and film festivals both in Australia and internationally, bringing the sharpest business minds together to discuss Australia in China’s Century, or touring with Ita Buttrose to push the boundaries on what ageing Australians ‘expect’ as cultural swings alter their lifestyle. My work has also been with resources companies developing cultural programs to enhance artistic and educational opportunities across communities they work in, through to State Government for a year long cultural celebration for Queensland’s 150th anniversary. I am currently working at the Australian Embassy in the USA as Cultural Attache.
Personal interests include a passion for literature, film, international relations and ideas festivals.
To sum up my career: it’s people, ideas, exchanges. I set up networks to draw parties together. I work on limited term projects as a contractor, taking up assignments ranging from 1 month to several years as the program requires.
Thanks for stopping by
Teresa
